Serving

"Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms. If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen. " (1 Peter 4:10-11). God calls us to be a people who serve others. In Matthew 20:28 Jesus tells his disciples "just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many. " Likewise, we seek to be a people who serve others to imitate our Lord.

Boots on the Ground

On Sunday February 6, a group of 11 people went to Kentucky to help with the rebuilding efforts from the devastating tornados that struck on December 10, 2021 killing 77 individuals and destroying over 1,000 properties. This team worked for 5 days helping to clean-up and rebuild in Dawson Springs, Benton and Mayfield Kentucky.

They spent their days removing debris, taking down trees and hanging branches, fixing and removing fences, moving peoples belongings so they can start the rebuild process and repairing things that needed repairs. The work was hard but spirit-filled. In addition, over $12,700 was raised by the church and donated to the Churches of Christ Disaster Response Team.

Pillars

Each month a group serves a meal at the Pillars homeless shelter. These meals vary greatly depending upon what our "chef" decides and has ranged from a cookout to pot roast with potatoes, vegetables and dessert.

The Teens also had an opportunity to build pizzas for the people at Pillars. Jesus tells us when we serve anyone in need, it is like we are serving him (Matthew 25: 31-45). This serving also provides an opportunity to fellowship as we work together to provide a great meal to the residents of the shelter.

Other Service Opportunities

There are many different opportunities to serve God at Mason Street Church of Christ. We are always looking for individuals to teach God's story to our children. When members are recovering from an injury or illness, the family will prepare meals for them. There are workdays when some of us gather to clean up the inside or outside.
