At the Mason Street Church of Christ you can expect a worship focused on honoring God and praising Him for all He has done for us. We want our worship to be Spirit-filled through song, scripture, the Lord’s Supper and hearing a message from God’s word.
Colossians 3:16 tells us “Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts.” We do this through acapella singing which allows the message of the song to touch our hearts and stir our spirit. Acapella music follows the oldest church traditions of unaccompanied vocal music.
2 Timothy 3:16-17 states “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” The Bible tells us about God and His relationship to the human race so scripture reading is an important part of our worship.
The reason we meet each Sunday is because of our risen Lord. Therefore we celebrate His life, death, burial and resurrection every first day of the week. When Jesus instituted the Lord’s Supper He told His disciples “do this in remembrance of Me.” (Luke 22:19). Through song and scripture, we turn our minds back to the cross to remember Jesus amazing sacrifice that takes away our sin!
Sharing a message from God’s word is one way we can encourage one another in our walk with Christ. The Hebrew writer tells us “And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.” (Hebrews 10:24-25). While the adults are listening to a lesson, children age 3 and older attend “Children’s Church” where they have a brief lesson and do an activity to reinforce it.
Engaging our kids in an age appropriate lesson is important to building good foundations and creating excitement about the word of God. Every Sunday we provide a lesson designed to teach the kids about the bible or key principles God asks to live by every day. This is done through an engaging number of ways including crafts, science projects, worksheets, puppets, skits and more. There is typically a small snack and beverage halfway through as well. Kids grow together as a family while learning an age appropriate lesson in with lessons tailored toward a younger group. Children who attend are age 3 and older.
